Technology plays a major role in the global world where communication has the highest significance as a means of communication. There are many devices that have been invented to facilitate the modern communicator. Cell phone is one the most effective and convenient devices that is being used globally for a fast communication purpose.

The communication facility being provided by cell phones is short message service (SMS) or in other words, Text Messaging. Another fast and cheaper means of communication is called internet that is provided across the globe. Both the technological facilities are quite easier for the people as fewer and shorter words are typed in order to sustain a direct communication. Along with the benefit of these devices, there is one great disadvantage of these devices and that is the impact of the language used on internet and in short message service (SMS) is that these services and applications have strong impact on the language proficiency. Most of the users use these shorter words in the standard language that cost the learners a lot of problem during academic learning at school. Some of the errors are grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and sentence formation. The aim of this paper is to highlight the consequences of the impact of text messaging and internet over the language and the future impact of the instant messaging or text messaging in the future of language.

The use of cell phone has adapted several spellings of words that had transformed the standard language of different countries. For the purpose of quick communication, the use of shorter spellings may be very easy for the consumers or communicators but its effect on the language is quite drastic as it ruins the overall proficiency level of the standard language of the learner. The use of shorter spelling of words started from the advent of internet and messaging softwares where the online chatters would shrink the sentence in order to get a quicker reply. The shrinking of words into smaller letters was quick for easier communication e.g. ?How are you?? was converted into ?HRU?.
