Facebook ? Photo notification in email may trigger malware attack

Sophos security is warning of malicious email messages that appear to come Facebook.? Please avoid opening any attachments.? This is documented as follows:

http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2012/08/28/facebook-friend-photo-malware/

QUOTE: Computer users are being warned to be careful about opening unsolicited email attachments, after a malicious Trojan horse was spammed out posing as a Facebook notification that the recipient is featured in a newly uploaded photograph. The emails, which pretend to come from Facebook.

Unfortunately, the attached ZIP file contains malware, designed to allow hackers to gain control over your Windows computer. Sophos products intercept the malware as Troj/Agent-XNN.? Last month, experts at SophosLabs saw another malware campaign posing as a Facebook photo tag notification. On that occasion, the emails did not contain attachments but instead linked to compromised websites which aimed to attack visiting computers with the Blackhole exploit kit.

Israeli banks' profits falter on slowing economy

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - Israel's top three banks all posted a drop in quarterly profits on Thursday, with slowing economic growth leading to increased bad debts and a weaker stock market hitting income from commissions and investments.

The results underscored the advantages of top bank Hapoalim , which benefited from a lower exposure than rivals to non-banking investments and the troubles of foreign banks, unlike its biggest rival, Leumi , a holder of Spanish and Italian bank bonds.

But analysts predict Israel's economy will grow by about 2.5 percent in 2012, down from 4.6 percent in 2011, raising fears of an increase in problems for the country's many highly indebted conglomerates.

The banks have boosted their interest income with a rise in lending to companies in Israel who face difficulties in issuing bonds, Leader Capital Markets analyst Alon Glazer said. Due to a series of debt restructurings that spooked investors, only top investment grade companies are issuing new bonds.

"On the other hand operating income is falling, mainly due to the weak capital markets," he said. "At some of the banks we saw a fall in commissions from ongoing activities due to a decline in the level of economic activity ... We assume this trend will continue in the light of estimates that economic growth is expected to drop."

Hapoalim reported a 15 percent fall in its second-quarter net profit to 607 million shekels ($151 million), just shy of the 613 million average forecast given in a Reuters poll of analysts.

UBS analyst Roni Biron said the results were in line with his forecast, with a slight fall in total income mainly due to lower fees being earnt in the weak capital markets, he added.

"While results provide few reasons for either excitement or concern, they highlight the low volatile nature of Hapoalim's model," Deutsche Bank analyst Dan Harverd wrote in a note.

Hapoalim's shares were down 1 percent at 12.46 shekels in afternoon trade.

LEUMI HIT BY PARTNER STAKE

Meanwhile Leumi saw its net profit in the last quarter fall 50 percent to 280 million shekels compared with 435 million forecast. Credit loss expenses rose to 333 million shekels, above expectations.

The bank was also hit by a 101 million-shekel charge for its investment in mobile phone operator Partner Communications , whose shares slid 45 percent in the quarter.

"Higher taxes, fee reforms and further potential capital market headwinds leave substantial risk to Leumi's bottom line," said Micha Goldberg, an analyst at Excellence Nessuah brokerage.

"Leumi's exposure to international financials and a potential sizeable share overhang further dampens any real investment case, despite distressed valuations."

Leumi'a shares were off 1.6 percent at 9.224 shekels.

Glazer said credit loss charges at Israel's banks will likely continue to rise, though not dramatically.

Israel's regulator has called for its banks to raise their core capital adequacy ratio to 9 percent of assets by the end of 2014 with a view to complying with the international Basel III standards.

At the end of the second quarter Hapoalim had a core Tier 1 ratio of 8.3 percent while Leumi had a ratio of 8.38 percent and the country's next biggest lender Israel Discount Bank had a ratio of 8.25 percent.

"Compared with the market's big fears, the banks continue to show us in their results that as of now their credit portfolios are in much better shape than in recent crises," Glazer said.

Discount suffered a 28 percent fall in its second-quarter profit to 165 million shekels. But excluding a provision for the impairment of its investment in the First International Bank , net profit was 238 million shekels, above the average forecast given by analysts in a Reuters poll of 184 million shekels.

Results at Israeli banks are expected to decline further in the coming quarters, but not by much, Glazer estimated.

"An investment in the banks is expected to yield a 15 percent return or more and therefore we continue to rate the banks 'buy'," Glazer said.

Plex launches new Web Client and PlexPass subscription, updates Media Server

Plex fans among us just got treated to a smorgasbord -- albeit one that isn't completely free. The media front-end developer hopes to boost its bottom line through PlexPass, a subscription service that amounts to a paid beta program. Shell out $4 per month and you'll get early access to in-development features, including a slate of premium-only extras during their incubation phase. One of the more ordinary (if important) features is going live today: a revamped Web Client not only rivals the native OS X app for speed but offers full media playback on top of the usual queue management. Whether you subscribe or not, you'll want to get an updated Media Server app that supports both PlexPass and the new client along with improving the server's behavior in several areas, such as lowering its memory use and supporting RTMP transcoding. We hope Plex keeps enough components on the free side of the fence as time goes on. For now, at least, we'll see the paid model as a way for loyalists to reward a company that has been powering their home theater PCs for years.

Three Digital Innovations that Significantly Boost Businesses ...

Aug 30, 2012

(from SNG?s One-of-a-Kind Broadband Utilization Database)

By Thibaud Chatel

Over the last several months, a question that keeps coming up from the economic development folks we work with is this? ?What are the most impactful digital innovations to improve businesses productivity?? They?re looking for ways that broadband can have the quickest impacts on the businesses in their region.

Well, based on SNG?s database (the Digital Economy Analytics Platform), which contains facts, not hearsay or hunches, here are some answers?

Develop online service for? customers and clients

The quality of a product is often not enough to convince a potential buyer. Just as important is the buying experience ? the quality of service offered before, during and after the sale. It is because of this that two-thirds (67.6%) of businesses[1] provide online customer service to reduce wait times, improve records handling, improve the selling experience, and provide 24/7 availability. All those factors improve efficiency on both client and vendor sides, pushing 87.1% of businesses[2] to declare that broadband significantly improved their customer service, ranking that initiative among the top-3 broadband benefits observed by businesses and organizations.

Broadband as a learning enabler

What if the era of having to travel for tradeshows or training was over? Broadband brings the knowledge and resources needed to skills development directly inside businesses, to the computer screen. Three following facts allow us to affirm that 80.6% of businesses[3] declare broadband significantly improved their employees? skills. Using online materials is the preferred method of learning, used by 78.4% of businesses [4], favored far more than traditional face-to-face learning. And if we consider that training existing employees is the preferred method for skills acquisition for 44.7% of businesses (whereas 33.5% prefer hiring external contractors)[5], broadband clearly appears an easy way to transfer knowledge and develop skills. .

Let?s Telework!

Teleworking is the ability to work from home or remotely.? An employee has the flexibility to leave his or her desk and then pick up where he/she left off later at home. Or it?s the ability to hire the best person for the job, no matter where he/she lives. It?s also the ability for a driver or a sales representative to visualize today?s roadmap before leaving their home and to go to their destination(s) directly, skipping a stop at the office. Teleworking means productivity and service quality gain, and is applicable to every business and at every employee level. If only 49% of businesses[6] currently telework (54.2% of them[7] say broadband increased their capacity to telework, showing that more awareness is needed), the most interesting data comes from the households side, 74.6% of them[8] proclaiming that teleworking plays an important role in maintaining an healthy life-work balance. And we all know that a less stressed worker is a happy worker and a more productive one.

One last fact, 30% of businesses and organizations simply don?t know what the benefits of broadband are[9]? It is hard to believe in 2012, isn?t it?? Awareness of benefits and the ROI from said benefits is critical, which is why economic development people are looking to launch targeted awareness campaigns to promote innovations in the workplace. That?s great, because we know experience and awareness matter just as much as technology and that without them, even the greatest technology remains an unused tool instead of a fully-leveraged solution.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 joins the ICS party with Android 4.0.4 update

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 joins the ICS party with Android 4.0.4 update

If 8.9 was the number of inches you required from your Samsung Galaxy tab, you may have been a little frustrated at the general lack of much expected ICS updates. Especially as many of your Galaxy cohorts had already received theirs. Well, wait no more, as the download is finally here in the US. As you might expect it's 4.0.4, and it apparently comes with a new -- and many say better -- version of TouchWiz. Better slide that finger down about 8.7-inches across the screen, and dig up those update settings then.

Time Warner Cable expanding fiber broadband coverage in NYC, only businesses to benefit

Google, we're not in Kansas anymore, we're in New York, where Time Warner Cable is planning to drop $25 million on expanding its (up to) 1Gbps fiber broadband infrastructure. Specifically, the additional network is hitting neglected areas in Brooklyn and Manhattan, but it's not for general consumption -- it's strictly for businesses. Don't feel too disheartened though -- you might not be getting a slice of this particular fiber pie, but it's all you can eat, all the time at the free WiFi buffet.

The Different Approaches Used In IT Asset ... - Registry Cleaners

IT asset recovery, also referred to as information technology asset recovery, is a process that allows to retrieve the data that have been mistakenly erased by an individual. For instance, let us say that a person has just deleted an important file and wants to retrieve it. The person will have trouble finding the file because the hardware of the computer will mark the file as no longer existing while in fact the file is still located at some area in the computer.?IT asset recovery?is a procedure that permits the gathering of all the files that have been discarded by the user and marked as nonexistent by the computer. There are 3 main techniques that are employed to perform IT asset recovery: automated backup and recovery; software recovery; and data recovery services.

Automated backup is one of the three approaches that both individuals and business can use to perform IT asset recovery. Indeed, there are many different vendors that propose programs that have the ability to back up sensitive data. Automated backups come in distinct formats, there are those that are built to repeatedly back up the network servers, those that are designed to back up the desktop program of the consumers and those that serve to back up the hard drive of a personal computer. Evidently, the price that the vendor charges to provide the automated backup services varies depending on the type of the automated backup service that the customer requests.

Software recovery is a list of programs that are sold in packages by the vendor and help the user fix their operating system whenever a crash or accident occurs. This second type of IT asset recovery approaches may be used by the individuals whose computer is not equipped with any automated backup. Because it may happen that the hard drive experience a system failure, software recovery has been designed to assist the user to recover all their data after the accident.

Data recovery services are the final type of IT asset recovery that an individual may have access to. These services are often available at the majority of computer repair stores. These stores possess a staff of highly skilled technicians who have the knowledge required to perform all sorts of repairs on the computer and on the laptop. In addition to the technical skills and the knowledge of its personnel, computer repair outlets usually possess a variety of tools and accessories that serve the purpose of fixing computers and laptops but that are hardly accessible to clients. In some computer repair stores, data recovery services are the priciest service that a client may request. Luckily, there are now some data recovery services that can cost less than a hundred dollars to the customers.

There are two main reasons for which a computer hard drive would fail: logical failure and mechanical failure. When a logical failure happens, that means that either the file system was mistakenly formatted or the file system is corrupt. When a mechanical failure occurs, that means that at least one of the components of the computer?s hard drive has been impaired, which stops the computer from working properly. In either case, requesting data recovery services should normally enable the person to retrieve their important data. If it is believed that the hard drive is having a serious mechanical failure, then the individual will need to request the help of a data recovery service professional, which means that at least five hundred dollars will be paid to recover the data. If it is a logical failure, the cost of retrieving the data should be between forty dollars and two hundred dollars.

(AP) ? Protesters blamed Tropical Storm Isaac and a massive police presence Monday for their weak showing at the Republican National Convention. Only a fraction of the 5,000 expected demonstrators actually turned out to criticize the GOP's economic and social policies.

Hundreds of police officers and heavily armed members of the Florida National Guard patrolled the streets of downtown Tampa. The protesters were required to conduct their rallies and parades in designated areas and along specified routes, none closer than about a half-mile from where Republicans would be gathering.

"They've militarized Tampa. The chilling effect has succeeded," said Cara Jennings, a voter outreach organizer from Palm Beach County.

About 200 people were marching as part of the Coalition to March on the RNC's rally in an empty lot near the arena where the Republicans will be nominating Mitt Romney as their candidate for president. Sporadic heavy rain lashed the city and winds were gusting at 35 mph as Isaac passed to the west of Tampa in the Gulf of Mexico. The Republicans themselves had cancelled most of their Monday activities because of the storm.

The 60 organizing groups included labor unions, Students for a Democratic Society, Veterans for Peace, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Occupy Wall Street and Code Pink.

Florida labor organizer Jose Soto said 16 buses of protesters from New York, Miami and the Florida Panhandle canceled because of the storm. He said the bus companies didn't want their equipment and drivers headed into possible problems.

"It's a calamity but all the people here are delegates for those who can't be here," said Soto of the University of Florida's Graduate Assistants United local.

Protester Mick Kelly of Minneapolis said the organizing groups were carrying on with the planned march, saying U.S. politics are dominated by the richest 1 percent.

"We demand and we will fight for good jobs," he said.

Jennings, who wore a pink, neck-to-knees vagina outfit decorated with sparkles, said she was protesting the GOP's position against abortion rights.

"The right-wing agenda is turning back time regarding women's bodies," she said.

Cheri Honkala, the Green Party's vice presidential candidate, told the crowd that, "On Election Day, we need to occupy the ballots." She said more women need to be involved in the nation's leadership.

"It's time for the men to move over. It's time for the mommas to right the wrongs," she said.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, a Democrat, said the protesters had been given additional space and access to toilets and water.

"We are being supportive of people who want to come and want to offer an alternative opinion," Buckhorn said.

But he said that police planned to respond quickly if groups broke off from protesters and were intent on damaging and destroying property.

"We want folks to know that we are here to help, but we are also here to stop you if you choose to do anything to the contrary of what we expect," Buckhorn said.

Tuesday Tweets: August 28th, 2012 ? 6400 Personal Finance

Always something worth keeping in mind when conducting any sort of transaction. ?Remember, the other guy doesn?t necessarily have your best interest at heart and he certainly doesn?t want to lose money just to get you to like him.

Short version: think stocks are high? Bonds are high too and are going to get smacked by rising interest rates at some point in the future. ?I offer these charts from last week?s Carnival of Financial Discipline for visual stimulus:

Stocks

Bonds

If you?re young now is the time to assume some risk. ?Don?t go to heavy into an asset that is virtually guaranteed to drop in value between now and your retirement.

Oh c?mon, really dude? Here is where we get to have some fun, if by fun we mean using Google to measure just how unoriginal a topic is:

15,000,000 results (give or take a few). ?Suppose we searched for something a bit more aggressive and effective at achieving financial independence?

3,040 results. ?Or 0.02% of the result list of ?how to budget.? ?Care to guess the ratio of people who budget obsessively compared to those who are millionaires? ?I bet its something similar.

And now we come to the post that pissed me off the most:

Dreck like this is just like the crap the left put forward during the surge in Iraq: no kidding we took more casualties, its because we had more boots on the ground! ?I got back four months ago from an area of Afghanistan that used to be covered by one brigade. ?When I left it was covered by eight. ?Guess which sized force was more effective in developing the security situation? ?Guess which sized force took more casualties?

This is the kind of thing that drives a wedge between the military and the civilian populace it is supposed to protect. ?Either you feel pity for us because you watch talentless twits prance around on TV while we fight a war you?ve forgotten about or you use our deaths to push your own agenda. ?Yes, the military is ultimately controlled by a civilian, as it should be in a free country. ?You might even know some people in the military, or, even worse, be a military spouse. ?Neither of which means you know what the hell you are talking about when it comes to strategic or tactical military operations. ?Hell I?m a (junior) officer and I could give a damn about strategic ops, what makes you think you know how to translate body counts into accurate policy analysis?

Now that I think about it there was a post I saw that also pissed me off. ?I?m in rant mode so bear with me for a few hundred more words:

I found one of those very rare un-decided voters! You know, the people who don?t watch TV, don?t use the internet, don?t read the newspaper, don?t talk to friends about politics, and thus wait until the last week before the election to figure who is running and who they want to vote for.

Or they actually are tuned in and are just so incredibly indecisive that they haven?t made a decision yet. ?Isn?t it good to know there are enough of them to swing a national election one way or the other? Go America!

As it turns out the un-decided voter in question is He Who Has?Diarrhea?Of The Mouth, Trent from from the Simple Dollar. ?I?ll let his own words from his reader mailbag post speak for themselves before I go into my apparently widely known ?jerk/asshole? mode:

Q10: Endorsement for President
Are you prepared to endorse Mitt Romney or Barack Obama for president?

- Alan

For starters, I don?t think the president has a lot to do with what actually happens in America. I think Congress has far more power than the president, to the point that I think one?s local Senate and House campaigns are more important to the future of the country than the presidency.

For another, my feeling is that Obama has not been as good as the Democrats often say, nor has he been as bad as the Republicans often say. At the same time, I have no idea what Mitt Romney stands for other than being ?not Obama,? which isn?t enough for me.

So I have no interest in ?endorsing? either one. I actually haven?t made up my mind fully about who I will even vote for when it comes to the presidential election.

Let me take you back to American Government 101: No branch of government has ?far more power? than the other. ?Public perception notwithstanding checks and balances do tend to work in keeping all three branches in line. ?You know all those bills that Congress signs that waste your money? ?Who do you think signs them into law? ?Yeah, its the guy in the White House. ?Also, and of more direct importance to me, is that the President has the final say in determining where our military gets deployed. ?So yes, please pay more attention to your local two-bit congressional race instead of the race that actually determines where the next generation of Americans will go to fight and die.

Also, and while I?m still refraining from making my own presidential choice known on this blog (the?choice?has been made, that I assure you), how is it possible that a man who makes his living off of the internet has no idea what Mitt Romney stands for? ?Really? ?Kind reader, I can almost guarantee that if I asked you to give me the basic bullet points on POTUS and Romney?s positions on taxes, domestic spending, and Israel that you would be able to give them to me with a high degree of accuracy. ?So if that is true how is it that dear Trent is lost in the sauce? ?Remember he hasn?t just made a decision,?he doesn?t even know what one of the two major candidates stands for.

But if you want to know how to save a couple pennies by making your own toothpaste then Trent is your guy.

Folks, this s**t matters to me because the guy in the White House has a significant impact on where my friends get to spend their summer vacations. ?For others among you presidential elections matter because it directly hits your pocketbook in the form of taxes and the government?s level of intervention in the marketplace. ?The list of reasons why these elections matter is quite long when you consider that more than 100 million people are going to pull the handle in November. ?When you go into the voting booth who you vote for is a decision that rests entirely with you. ? Just do us all a favor and put some mental effort into the decision before you make it. ?Ignorance is not a virtue.

Comment: Finding the right technology to suit you

Mark O'Hanlon, Manager at Kurt Salmon

Mark O'Hanlon 10:07AM - Tue 28th August 2012

The operating models for grocery and fashion retailers may be quite different but there is considerable overlap when it comes to adopting new technology to improve the customer experience in the omni-channel world.

While leading edge technology, such as virtual shopping walls and augmented reality, for instance, are being trialled by a handful of retailers worldwide there is no doubt that the organisations that are innovative in the use of technology will gain considerable competitive advantage. Today?s customers increasingly expect innovations and, relatively quickly, these become a hygiene factor. There is a considerable risk to those retailers who have inflexible operating models and are unable to capitalise on the opportunities that new technology will provide.

So while much of this new technology is having a customer-facing impact, it will inevitably have a bearing on how retailers go to market and impact on their overall business strategy. An added advantage for early adopters, even for trials, is both valuable brand awareness that lives longer than the trial itself and the opportunity to collect more data about customers and products. Furthermore, technology offers all retailers the opportunity to lower their ?per customer cost?, meaning improvements in Return on Capital Employed and other key metrics.

Adidas was the first company in the world to launch a virtual shopping wall and since then the next most high profile adopter has been Tesco, first with the walls in railway and bus stations in Korea designed to assisted time-pressed commuters and, more recently, its trial at Gatwick Airport.

Virtual walls represents a relatively low investment (compared with establishing a bricks and mortar store) to gain a presence in high footfall locations. Tesco has relentlessly pursued a decade-long strategy to give everyone in the country access to its brand more often than its competitors and with the wall has identified another opportunity to sign up customers to its online network, this time while they have time on their hands. Naturally, Tesco will crawl all over the data that it gleans on the back of this trial and be in a really good position to decide whether this scheme represents another great way to expand its UK footprint.

The Tesco trial is timely as all grocers are taking a closer look at their property portfolios and virtual walls could become another ?format? to reach new (or existing) customers .

Ocado has already conducted two similar trials: last year at One New Change in London and then in July in Birmingham?s Bullring shopping centre. How long will it be before Amazon follows suit? And on the fashion side, will we see Net-a-Porter, ASOS or even Missguided developing versions to give them a presence ?on the street??

Where fashion retailers are further ahead is in the use of augmented reality. While this is still emerging technology, both in terms of its sophistication and relative cost , it is beginning to be used more widely by retailers to improve the customer experience. Principally, it is allowing shoppers to understand products better and to make comparisons easily, as well as, creating a point of differentiation.

One of the better examples of this is Goertz, which has set up virtual fitting rooms in busy shopping centres and train stations in Germany that allow shoppers to try on multiple types of shoes and even send pictures of them to their friends and request feedback.

Among UK early adopters are Net-a-Porter, ASOS and New Look who are using it within advertisements, directing viewers to richer product information with the opportunity to go directly to buy the product.

The grocery ?version? has just come to life with another Tesco first ? this time with its cover-to-cover augmented reality food magazine Real Food. Recipes are brought to life and readers can scan them and go straight to the Tesco online store to buy the ingredients.

For grocers the investment in new technology is always going to around the convenience factor, whereas with fashion retailers it is much more about enabling consumers to further explore the company?s offer and be ?inspirational? ? that it also addresses the convenience factor is a bonus.

What is certain is that technology is advancing quicker than retailers can update their operating models to capitalise on each new opportunity. However, what they need to make certain is that the technology is not just about adding a new ?gimmick? but something that will help customers get what they want.

Obese and overweight women face increased risk of recurrence of most common type of breast cancer

Obese and overweight women face increased risk of recurrence of most common type of breast cancer [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 27-Aug-2012

Extra poundseven within the overweight but not obese rangeare linked to a higher risk of recurrence of the most common type of breast cancer despite optimal cancer treatment, according to a new study published early online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society. The study's results suggest that extra body fat causes hormonal changes and inflammation that may drive some cases of breast cancer to spread and recur despite treatment.

Women who are obese when they are diagnosed with breast cancer have an increased risk of dying prematurely compared with women of normal weight. In this new study, Joseph Sparano, MD, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Montefiore Medical Center, in Bronx, NY, and his colleagues across the US cancer cooperative groups compared the health outcomes of obese and overweight patients with others in a large group of women with stage I-III breast cancer who had participated in three National Cancer Institutesponsored treatment trials led by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (now part of the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group). All of the trials (E1199, E5188, and E3189) required participants to have normal heart, kidney, liver, and bone marrow function, thereby excluding patients with other significant health issues. As a result, researchers were able to disentangle the influence of obesity from other factors affecting cancer recurrence and survival.

The researchers found that increasing body mass indexa measure of the body's fat contentsignificantly increased women's risk of cancer recurrence and death, despite optimal treatment including chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. There was a stepwise relationship between increasing body mass index and poor outcomes only in women with hormone receptorpositive breast cancer, the most common type of breast cancer that accounts for approximately two-thirds of all breast cancer cases in the United States and worldwide.

"We found that obesity at diagnosis of breast cancer is associated with about a 30 percent higher risk of recurrence and a nearly 50 percent higher risk of death despite optimal treatment," said Dr. Sparano. "Treatment strategies aimed at interfering with hormonal changes and inflammation caused by obesity may help reduce the risk of recurrence," he added.

Good Karma Baby!: My Friend Pica

This post has been a long time coming. It is a personal experience that I felt I needed to share with others, as I truly felt alone dealing with pica during all my pregnancies.

Pica is describe as : "the intense craving for ? and eating of ? non-food items, such as soil, clay, laundry starch, ice, ashes, plaster, paint chips, and coffee grounds. Pica (which comes from the Latin word for magpie, a bird known for eating almost anything) is a worldwide phenomenon and seems to be more common during pregnancy as described?BabyCentre.com?.

I had an unusually strong craving for the smell of ?Lestoil. Pinesol would do in a pinch, but Lestoil was my smell of choice. I was told that my Grandma used Lestoil in her house but I was very young when she died, so don't I really remember that part of her. I was very far from my close knit family and childhood home during?all my pregnancies and maybe this was my minds way of finding comfort in my new home. The smell engulfed me, it made me feel safe, warm almost euphoric.

I didn't notice a problem until my husband came home and complained that the house smelled like a urinal. I was completely offended, how could he say that this clean & welcoming home smelled like a men's washroom!

The worst of this situation came about as my husband headed to the airport to get my parents at the end of my first pregnancy. I decided that there was no way my parents could stay in a room with dirty windows. In my pregnancy wisdom, I decided to climb onto the roof of our front porch to clean the windows. Yes, picture it. Nine months pregnant, Lestoil, Windex and paper towel in hand, cleaning the outside of the windows. As I was cleaning my parents arrived. Let's just say, they talked me in off the ledge.

As my parents eyes began to water due to the strong smell of Lestoil, I final realized the full extent of my issue. My wonderful OBGYN, was more than understanding. She explained that as long as I didn't want to drink the Lestoil I was fine. I did fail to tell her I had been tempted to drink it but didn't and that twice during my pregnancy I drove panicked to the 24 hr grocery store in the middle of the night to buy more cleaner.

Interestingly, enough the moment I returned home from the hospital with baby in tow, the effect had worn off. The smell became offensive, empty almost hollow.?Each of the subsequent two pregnancy had the same symptoms, the house was clean but smelled overwhelmingly like an hockey change room bathroom stall.

Very few people knew about my little Lestoil addition, but after speaking to a pregnant friend this week, who is having a little pica moment of her own, I wanted to share my experience. Pica is normal is usually signifies an iron deficiency. The message in the post is simple, you are not losing your mind this too will pass and I wish someone had shared that with me that 10 years ago.

Behind the Scenes of a Business Filing

Nellie AkalpWhen you digitally file to incorporate your business or become an LLC, the process is purely digital, right? Not so, says Nellie Akalp, CEO of CorpNet. For her company, the process is highly hands-on and fast paced to get the fast turnaround it guarantees clients.

How it Works

The process begins with a customer submitting an order online. This might be to file a corporation, LLC, DBA, or a business license or permit. As soon as the order is received (or the next business day if the order comes in after hours) a CorpNet staffer calls the customer to confirm the information.

The client relations specialist then performs a name clearance to make sure no one else has filed the same name. The information is then input onto state approved documents (CorpNet files for all the states), and it?s sent on to be approved.

Because CorpNet has a good relationship with state agencies, the entire process takes 7-10 days (with expedited service available). Once the paperwork comes back approved by the agency, CorpNet puts the finishing touches on the packet and sends it to the client. And just like that, folks, you?ve become a corporation.

Putting Her Money Where Her Mouth Is

Nellie doesn?t make empty promises. She stands behind her company?s guarantees. When a big-time movie producer called, desperately needing to file a Nevada corporation asap, he was incredulous when she assured him CorpNet could file the paperwork in record time.

?He did not believe me, so I made a deal with him: I said I would take care of this filing and guarantee not only the filing but also the processing time, and if I did not live up to my promise that it would be no charge. However, if I came through for him, that he would have to give me another 10 orders as well.? Well, guess what? We have processed over 100 corporations for this client to date.?

The Small Business Difference

Not every company that files business documents is a small business, but that?s exactly what CorpNet is most proud of. Nellie?proudly says that her company is a ?small business helping other small businesses,? and it shows in the care each employee puts into each order.

?I?m a?strong advocate in educating small business owners and entrepreneurs about the importance of protecting their personal assets through business incorporation and trademark protection?I want them to be aware of the liabilities that they open themselves up to without having the protection of a corporate shield such as a corporation or an LLC.?

An Influencer of Small Businesses

Nellie?was honored as one of the Top 100 Small Business Influencer Champions for 2012, proving to her that she?s on the right track with her mission to educate entrepreneurs:

?It?s definitely confirmation and validation that from a career standpoint I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing, which is empowering, inspiring, and educating small business owners and entrepreneurs about starting, protecting, and running their small business?and more importantly that the content and information that I am publishing out there is credible, right on point and well received and acknowledged.?

This article is part of a series highlighting key players in the?Small Business Influencer Awards.
