New Microsoft Ad Shows Google Apps Risks - Business Insider

Baseball great Pete Rose, who was banned from baseball for life in 1989 for gambling on the sport while managing the Cincinnati Reds, made a cameo appearance in a new Microsoft ad.

The ad claims using?Google Docs is like gambling in a Las Vegas casino.?

Actor Rob Schneider also stars in the ad as a casino dealer running a game called, you guessed it, Google Docs. The object is to open a Microsoft Office presentation in Google Docs without losing data or running into messy formatting errors, and the prize is a shiny key chain.?

Of course, when?Schneider lures a player to the table, he loses immediately because Microsoft and Google are like the Hatfields and McCoys of the productivity software market and haven't shown any interest in getting their respective file formats to work well with each other. And both blame each other for this.

When Schneider tries to get Rose to play, the 72-year old former baseball star waves him away and says: "No, no, no, it's too big a gamble?? even for me."

Rose's appearance is self-effacing and funny, though it's probably not going to endear him to the forces in Major League Baseball who've been fighting his efforts at reinstatement. This would be a necessary first step before Rose can be inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame. ?

Here's the video:?

Senate rejects firearms on more federal lands

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate rejected an effort Wednesday to expand the use of firearms on some of the nation's most frequently visited federal lands, handing gun control advocates a modest success.

The measure, backed by the National Rifle Association, represented one of two efforts Wednesday by gun rights supporters to take the offensive in Congress. Across the Capitol, a Republican-run House committee voted to make it easier for some veterans with mental difficulties to get firearms.

The rejected Senate proposal would have let people use guns for any legal purpose on lands managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, which oversees nearly 12 million acres that abound in lakes, rivers, campsites and hiking trails. Currently, guns on those properties are limited to activities like target-range shooting and hunting, and weapons must be unloaded while being carried to those activities.

Senators voted 56-43 for the proposal by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., but it fell short of the 60 votes needed for passage.

Eleven Democrats and one Democratic-leaning independent voted for Coburn's plan, underscoring the party's divisions on the gun issue.

Those voting for Coburn's proposal included all four Democrats who opposed the bipartisan bill expanding required federal background checks to more gun buyers that the Senate rejected three weeks ago.

The background check expansion has been the pillar of President Barack Obama's effort to restrict guns following December's elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn. Top Democrats and other supporters hope to win fresh support and stage a new vote on background checks, perhaps next month. Advocates hope that voting for Coburn's proposal might let some senators show voters they support gun rights and give them more leeway to reverse themselves and vote for background checks next time.

Also backing Coburn's proposal were the two chief authors of the defeated background check measure, Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Patrick Toomey, R-Pa.

Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois, a supporter of the Manchin-Toomey plan, was the only Republican to vote against expanding gun use on Corps land.

Coburn said gun rights on Corps land should be the same as in national parks and federal wildlife refuges, where federal law has allowed visitors to carry guns since 2010. He said after the vote that he would keep reintroducing the measure until it passes.

"Fifty-six votes, a majority of the Senate believes we ought to have one sane policy" on gun rights on federal lands, Coburn said.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said allowing more guns onto Corps property would increase danger to the dams, flood control systems and other crucial water projects.

"This critical infrastructure is a target for terrorists," she said. Allowing more guns "sets up a national security threat. It endangers people."

Army Corps lands are used for recreation by 370 million people annually, more than visit the property of any other federal agency. About 80 percent of them are within 50 miles of urban areas, making them accessible destinations.

Also Wednesday, the House Veterans Affairs Committee voted by voice to require a judge or magistrate to declare a veteran is dangerous before the person's name is entered in the background check system's database of people barred from getting firearms.

Currently, the Veterans Affairs Department sends the system the names of veterans it has declared unable to manage their financial affairs ? 127,000 names since 1998.

Supporters of the measure said veterans who can't handle their money aren't necessarily dangerous.

"It's arbitrary. It's inconsistent and it's unreasonable," Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., chairman of the committee, said of the current process.

The Veterans department opposes the measure, saying veterans in the database already have the ability to appeal.

Yen hits 4-1/2-year low vs dollar, oil and gold tumble

By Herbert Lash

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The yen slid to a 4-1/2-year low against the dollar on Friday, triggering a sell-off in oil and gold as well as safe-haven U.S. and German debt, after recent signs of strength in the U.S. labor market added to bullish sentiment on the dollar.

Wall Street surged at day's end, pushing both the Dow and the S&P 500 to record closing highs.

Data on bond holdings in Japan showed the Japanese were buying more foreign assets, and the yen's collapse reverberated throughout financial markets. Conflicting signals about how investors view the economic outlook added to the yen's wide impact.

The greenback rallied broadly as recent data indicating an improving U.S. jobs market sparked speculation the Federal Reserve may scale back monetary easing. The policy was designed to bolster the economy, and it also has lifted the stock market.

The firmer dollar pressured oil, as the strength of the dollar makes commodities more expensive for holders of other currencies. The fall in oil was intensified by rising supplies and doubts over the strength of China's economy.

"There are two fundamental themes. The first is that despite signs of slower U.S. growth here in the second quarter, the U.S.

labor market continues to improve," said Marc Chandler, head of global currency strategy and Brown Brothers Harriman in New York.

"The second is the news reported in Tokyo ... that Japanese investors turned buyers of foreign bonds," he said, calling it an important signal for the "yen bears."

The bearish investors were already selling the yen on expectations that Japanese investors would sell as the Bank of Japan's stimulus measures displaced them from the local bond market, Chandler said.

The Japanese currency fell to 101.98 yen per dollar, the lowest since October 2008. The dollar was last at 101.56 yen, up 0.97 percent on the day.

With the Japanese currency breaching the 100 level, analysts expect the yen to fall further. Some see the dollar rising to 105 yen this summer and to 110 by the end of the year.

JAPAN'S LONG-AWAITED FORAY ABROAD

Overnight data showed that Japanese investors had bought 309.9 billion yen in foreign bonds in the week through May 4 after purchasing 204.4 billion yen in the prior week, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Equities in Europe closed higher, while Wall Street stocks staged a late rally and all three major indexes posted gains for a third straight week.

German Bunds slid to their lowest level in over a month as Bund futures, which hit a record high of 147.20 last week, fell more than a point to a low of 144.43 and were on course for their biggest one-week fall since March 10.

Bund futures settled down 121 ticks at 144.66.

The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note was down 23/32 in price to yield 1.893 percent.

The slump in the Japanese currency was sparked by a drop in weekly U.S. jobless claims data on Thursday, which added to evidence of a rapidly improving employment market first seen in the prior week's nonfarm payrolls report.

The move was given a further push by the data on Japanese investors' foreign bond purchases. The data confirmed widespread expectations that the Bank of Japan's aggressive stimulus plans would result in a massive flight of money out of the country in a search for higher-yielding investments.

"We've had back-to-back good news in U.S. figures and you have to wind the clock back six to eight weeks to find the last time we had that," said Nick Parsons, head of market strategy at

National Australia Bank.

"Once we got through 100 (yen) and the Japanese bond buying data came out, that added fuel to the fire," he said.

The yen's move came as finance ministers and central bankers of the Group of 7 countries gathered for a two-day meeting near London, to discuss ways to stimulate growth, with currency movements likely to be one of the main topics on the agenda.

Stocks on Wall Street gained as a rise in Google Inc and other technology shares offset a slide in energy shares.

Nvidia Corp and Priceline.com Inc rose a day after reporting quarterly results. Both companies beat profit expectations, even as Priceline gave a second-quarter outlook that disappointed.

"We're getting more constructive on the second half of the year as both the market and the economy are picking up," said Terry DuFrene, investment specialist for JP Morgan Private Bank in New Orleans.

"While it has caught us by surprise how much markets have come up, and we might see a decline of 5 percent, we don't see any meaningful pullback ahead," DuFrene said.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 35.87 points, or 0.24 percent, at 15,118.49. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 7.03 points, or 0.43 percent, at 1,633.70. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 27.41 points, or 0.80 percent, at 3,436.58.

MSCI's world equity index, which tracks stocks in 45 countries, was down 0.07 percent, but ended a third week of gains at a five-year high.

The FTSEurofirst 300 index of leading European shares closed up 0.35 percent at 1,233.49.

Oil fell heavily on the firmer dollar, with the June contract for North Sea Brent falling to $101.45 a barrel before trimming some losses.

Brent crude oil settled down 56 cents at $103.91. U.S. crude eased 35 cents to settle at $96.04 a barrel.

Spot gold fell as low as $1,420.60 an ounce.

U.S. Comex gold futures for June delivery settled down $32 at $1,436.60 an ounce.

BofA sells $110 billion CMBS servicing rights portfolio to KeyBank

(Reuters) - Bank of America Corp will sell a commercial mortgage servicing rights portfolio valued at around $110 billion to a KeyCorp unit for an undisclosed amount, the latest offloading of servicing assets which many big banks consider costly to collect on.

Bank of America announced similar deals for more than $300 billion of servicing rights earlier this year. Terms of those deals showed comparatively small amounts of money changing hands.

It sold servicing rights on $215 billion of mortgages for $1.3 billion to Nationstar Mortage Holdings and rights to $93 billion of mortgages for $519 million to Walter Investments.

In the wake of the housing crisis, many borrowers have gone into foreclosure and collecting mortgage payments has become expensive. The level of capital needed to back the loans is also higher for banks while smaller companies that specialize in servicing these loans do not have to follow bank capital rules.

Bank of America and other banks are still being pursued in relation to the housing meltdown. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said on Monday he plans to sue it and Wells Fargo & Co for violating the terms of a settlement designed to end mortgage servicing abuses.

KeyBank Real Estate Capital said in a statement it will more than double its servicing portfolio to $205 billion with the acquisition, which includes about $14 billion in special servicing rights.

The transaction needs the approval of private investors.

KeyBank said it has made a sub-servicing agreement with Berkadia Commercial Mortgage on the CMBS primary servicing portfolio it is acquiring from Bank of America. It is also acquiring Berkadia's $10 billion special servicing portfolio.

Finding A Plastic Surgeon? Best Ways To Find And Hire A Qualified ...

Related eBooks

When faced with locating a reliable plastic surgeon, do you know where to start? Is there help available with this process? Continue reading for propositions to help you find a good plastic surgeon.

Annually, hospitals are rated and ranked based on many factors. These ratings can be reviewed to see if a local hospital made the list. Plastic Surgeons can be chosen from these facilities. Some qualities in the ratings include: number of nurses, patient volume, and level of technology available.

Have you ever used a medical referral agency? They are consistently proven to provide referrals to only the best plastic surgeons. Their whole business model revolves around their ability to do so. If they refer bad plastic surgeons they?ll lose their clients. If you want the best doc check with a referral service.

Does the office staff check on you if you must wait for more than fifteen minutes to see your plastic surgeon? Do they update you on the status of the wait time? Would they allow you to reschedule for a different appointment without accruing another co-pay?

Though a lawsuit against a plastic surgeon can be red flag, it may not be a deal breaker. Check your state licensing board for details about sanctions or suspensions on the plastic surgeon in question. The plastic surgeon may just try more risky strategies than most. Be thorough in your investigation.

Often group practices can be a good choice when searching for a new plastic surgeon. Groups of plastic surgeons can provide more coverage for their patients? appointments and emergencies. Also, they also can often share knowledge with each other of new procedures and breakthroughs.

Plenty of states make sure plastic surgeons have a clean criminal history before allowing them to become licensed. However, some don?t. Check to see what the qualifications are in your state and look into your own plastic surgeon as well. Make sure your plastic surgeon has undergone a criminal background check and is a reputable lady or gentleman.

Do you feel that your plastic surgeon is trying to get you to switch to another plastic surgeon? A good plastic surgeon will discuss any issues or concerns they have regarding your care. It is poor practice for the plastic surgeon to change their care so you look elsewhere.

Determine if the plastic surgeon can see the difference between the symptoms and the cause. If you are experiencing a headache, does the plastic surgeon look to the cause of the headache or just prescribe medication? Is a history taken to explore head injuries or other symptoms? In a fast-paced world, it is important to make sure that the plastic surgeon questions why things are happening to you instead of just addressing complaints.

Batman Tumbler Replica Promises Gumball 3000 Mayhem

?

?

The annual high-speed blingfest known as the Gumball 3000 Rally sees no shortage of ultra exotic hypercars, so it's no wonder we stopped dead in our tracks when we laid eyes on this wild, Batman-inspired contender that happens to be built entirely from scratch.

?

The acutely angular, mammoth-tired rendition of the Tumbler from The Dark Knight Rises was constructed by Florida-based?Parker Brother Concepts, and packs a 6.2 liter V8 producing 400 horsepower, a 2.5 ton curb weight, and a track that's wider than a Hummer H2. It's also claimed to be street legal-- which, if true, would be a stunning accomplishment considering its homegrown roots.

?

There's no telling how the replicated Batman car will perform when it hits the pan-European rally that usually sees far less creatively outfitted Koenigseggs, Lambos, Ferraris, and all manner of exotic hardware in between, but the team-- a group of 21 to 34 year-olds from America, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the UK-- certainly deserves props for curating such an outlandishly inspired ride.

Brain anatomy of dyslexia is not the same in men and women, boys and girls

May 8, 2013 ? Using MRI, neuroscientists at Georgetown University Medical Center found significant differences in brain anatomy when comparing men and women with dyslexia to their non-dyslexic control groups, suggesting that the disorder may have a different brain-based manifestation based on sex.

Their study, investigating dyslexia in both males and females, is the first to directly compare brain anatomy of females with and without dyslexia (in children and adults). Their findings were published online in the journal Brain Structure and Function.

Because dyslexia is two to three times more prevalent in males compared with females, "females have been overlooked," says senior author Guinevere Eden, PhD, director for the Center for the Study of Learning and past-president of the International Dyslexia Association.

"It has been assumed that results of studies conducted in men are generalizable to both sexes. But our research suggests that researchers need to tackle dyslexia in each sex separately to address questions about its origin and potentially, treatment," Eden says.

Previous work outside of dyslexia demonstrates that male and female brains are different in general, adds the study's lead author, Tanya Evans, PhD.

"There is sex-specific variance in brain anatomy and females tend to use both hemispheres for language tasks, while males just the left," Evans says. "It is also known that sex hormones are related to brain anatomy and that female sex hormones such as estrogen can be protective after brain injury, suggesting another avenue that might lead to the sex-specific findings reported in this study."

The study of 118 participants compared the brain structure of people with dyslexia to those without and was conducted separately in men, women, boys and girls. In the males, less gray matter volume is found in dyslexics in areas of the brain used to process language, consistent with previous work. In the females, less gray matter volume is found in dyslexics in areas involved in sensory and motor processing.

The results have important implications for understanding the origin of dyslexia and the relationship between language and sensory processing, says Evans.

Toshiba: Microsoft Confused Consumers With Windows 8 and RT

Regardless what your feelings are on Windows 8 in general, I think most of us can agree Windows RT was a mistake and the company should have just stuck with the Surface Pro at a lower price point.

While he was speaking from his "personal view" that Microsoft "confused the market with a couple of different flavours" of the operating system, his words will still bounce back on Toshiba as the company he works for. As for the pricing, it "didn't make sense," he told the publication, as the price of laptops were significantly higher than the typical $399-$599 price range.

Spark launches $1m fund for Nigerian tech companies | Vanguard ...

Lagos ? Internet entrepreneurs of iROKOtv Jason Njoku and Bastian Gotter, today announced the official launch of SPARK, a $1m-backed company to support and develop aspiring Nigerian tech and Internet entrepreneurs.

The move comes amid significant disruption in the Nigerian Internet scene; fast becoming one of the country?s most prolific and exciting sectors, as many entrepreneurs struggle to make the transition from idea to business due to prohibitive start-up costs, a lack of on-the-ground angel investment opportunities, a lack of access to trusted mentorship and business bureaucracy.

In a statement by Jessica Hope , the organisation?s ?Head of Communications, said the Lagos-based company is set to start a Nigerian IT revolution as 13 start-ups have been funded with $35-75,000 each , adding that ?the companies include a hotel room booking site, a Christian dating site and a property-letting site that currently employ 80 people.

?Economic growth is currently 7% per annum in Nigeria. The current value of the Nigerian Internet sector today is estimated at $250m and by 2016 it will be close to $1bn. Nigeria is a seen as a ?frontier market? with a population keen to access new consumer items, both in stores and, increasingly, online. However there are few Internet companies that have the backing or ability to supply the ever-increasing demand.?

Jason Njoku and Bastian Gotter

Jason Njoku and Bastian Gotter

Managing Partner of SPARK, Jason Njoku said, ?In Africa, we?re witnessing an exciting metamorphosis, from a tech ?scene? to a tech ?revolution?, where Lagos is very much the gateway for the entire continent. The creativity, talent, the spirit of entrepreneurship is here but Nigeria?s business eco system isn?t set up to adequately support start-ups in their earliest days. Our intention with SPARK is to act as the catalyst to a period of aggressive and exciting growth in Africa?s Internet sector.?

Bastian Gotter, Managing Partner of SPARK says: ?The incubation period for any start-up is critical and we found that this is where Nigeria?s business infrastructure struggles most. SPARK is uniquely positioned to totally change this; we aren?t just an incubator, we aren?t just an investor ? we are a company that builds companies. We fund our companies, provide them with the back room assistance they need to get started and advise them on all aspects of their business. SPARK is the financial, intellectual and pragmatic engine that will propel Nigeria?s Internet entrepreneurs from start-ups to dynamic businesses that generate jobs and income for the region.?

SPARK-funded companies, are managed by Jason Njoku, Bastian Gotter and Mary Remmy-Njoku, sharing the same administrative infrastructure, legal teams, mentors and marketing support, making the companies capital, while it is?expected that by the close of 2013, SPARK ?will have created or funded 20 companies in total.

IT start-ups that have been funded in Nigeria include: ?Hotels.com.ng, Christians.com.ng, Bus.com.ng, Giddimint.com.ng, ?Borro.com.ng, Insured.com.ng, ToLet.com.ng ,Foto.com.ng, blink.com.ng, Healthy.com.ng and Drinks.com.ng

New mechanism converts natural gas to energy faster, captures CO2

May 7, 2013 ? Chemical engineering researchers have identified a new mechanism to convert natural gas into energy up to 70 times faster, while effectively capturing the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2).

"This could make power generation from natural gas both cleaner and more efficient," says Fanxing Li, co-author of a paper on the research and an assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at North Carolina State University.

At issue is a process called chemical looping, in which a solid, oxygen-laden material -- called an "oxygen carrier" -- is put in contact with natural gas. The oxygen atoms in the oxygen carrier interact with the natural gas, causing combustion that produces energy.

Previous state-of-the-art oxygen carriers were made from a composite of inert ceramic material and metal oxides. But Li's team has developed a new type of oxygen carrier that include a "mixed ionic-electronic conductor," which effectively shuttles oxygen atoms into the natural gas very efficiently -- making the chemical looping combustion process as much as 70 times faster. This mixed conductor material is held in a nanoscale matrix with an iron oxide -- otherwise known as rust. The rust serves as a source of oxygen for the mixed conductor to shuttle out into the natural gas.

In addition to energy, the combustion process produces water vapor and CO2. By condensing out the water vapor, researchers are able to create a stream of concentrated CO2 to be capture for sequestration.

Because the new oxygen carrier combusts natural gas so much more quickly than previous chemical looping technologies, it makes smaller chemical looping reactors more economically feasible -- since they would allow users to create the same amount of energy with a smaller system.

"Improving this process hopefully moves us closer to commercial applications that use chemical looping, which would help us limit greenhouse gas emissions," Li says.

Property owners to foot the bill if $9m bond passes for road repairs ...

DUNCAN ? When city officials in Duncan sought public approval to borrow money for a major street improvement effort in 2007, they gave voters two options to pay for it.

?One called for a $20 million bond to be paid through higher property taxes. The other would have funded the street work through a half-cent increase in the city?s sales tax rate.

A majority of voters balked at both of them.

Now, six years later, the city is asking voters to approve a $9 million general obligation bond that would be repaid over 10 years through additional taxes on property owners.

There is no sales-tax option this time, though some believe it would be the more equitable route to take because more people ? not just property owners ? would share in the debt burden.

?We need street repairs but that needs to be more of a shared responsibility,? said Peggy Davenport, an insurance agent in Duncan who helped defeat property tax bond issues sought by Duncan Public Schools in 2010 and 2011.

City officials, however, say their proposal makes financial sense on several levels.

The sales tax rate in Duncan is now 8.7 percent. It was 8.55 cents on the dollar before voters in Stephens County approved an additional 0.15 percent county-wide to provide more money for fire departments and senior nutrition centers.

The sales tax rate is still lower than the 8.88 percent in Lawton, but is higher than the 8.25 percent rate in Wichita Falls, Texas. Because of their size and proximity, those cities compete with Duncan for retail dollars.

Chris Deal, president of the Duncan Chamber of Commerce, said if sales taxes in Duncan go much higher, retailers here would take a hit because folks would shop for some products elsewhere. And that could mean less sales tax revenue for Duncan.

Proponents of the street proposal also say that bonds backed by property taxes draw better interest rates than those backed by sales taxes or utility payments. Property taxes are considered a more stable source of revenue because they are less susceptible to swings in the economy.

The average interest rate assumed on the proposed 10-year bond issue is 2.89 percent.

And because interest rates have remained at historically low levels for some time now, it?s a good time to borrow money.

It also makes sense to pay back the money over a 10-year term, city officials say, as opposed to doing it in five years or 15 years.

Allan Brooks, an attorney with Public Finance Law Group that is helping advise the city, explained that rationale to the Duncan City Council this way:

?If the term is too short, we were concerned about the debt burden,? Brooks said. ?If the term was too long, we did not want to do street improvements that would be worn out before the debt was paid off.?

Under the proposal, the average additional tax on a house worth $150,000 would be about $98. That?s $8.17 more per month on average.

For a house worth $100,000, the annual tax bill would be about $64 higher. For one worth $250,000, it would be about $169.

Of the costs, $7.8 million would go toward construction, $943,000 for engineering and $176,000 ? or 2 percent ? for financing. The projections assume 3 percent for inflation.

Under the plan, only property owners ? and perhaps some renters if landlords pass on the higher property taxes ? would foot the bill.

And that bothers Davenport.

?This is something that the whole community benefits from and the streets need to be repaired, but at the same time we should all share in that,? she said.

Injectable Nanoparticles Maintain Normal Blood-sugar Levels For Up To 10 Days

This advancement, if it pans out (most things don't, sadly...), it'll be great for Type Is.

Right now, it can be difficult to manage weight as a Type I - if you exercise, you must reduce your insulin dosage in advance. Otherwise, your blood sugar drops and you wind up eating to make up the calories.

While a normal person (or even a Type 2) can say "I'm gonna go for a run/long walk now because I feel like it", a Type 1's thought process, if they actually want to get benefit is, "I'm definitely going to go for a run/long walk after this meal. I will reduce my insulin dosage for this meal to compensate." Don't run after the meal? Bloodsugar goes high. Run after the meal without planning it before the meal? Bloodsugar goes low and you eat.

My initial reaction to the description of this was "oh, somewhat longer-acting Lantus", but it appears that it is actually load-reactive, sort of acting as an artificial pancreas. However, taking only one injection for a week is unlikely to work - the amount of insulin required for a week is far more than is practical for a single injection unless you're a little kid. That said, going down to 1-2 injections per day, and having that insulin react to load, is a MAJOR improvement for diabetics... Especially, as I said before, load-reactiveness.

Ronda Rousey named one of 50 women changing the world

UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has already changed the UFC. As the first woman to sign with MMA's biggest promotion and its first champion, Rousey made history when she beat Liz Carmouche at UFC 157. According to one magazine, Rousey isn't just changing MMA. She is one of Business Insider's "50 Women Changing the World."

Ranked 42nd on the list, Business Insider points out that the trash-talking Rousey has changed the sports world. She shares the list with fellow athletes Brittney Griner and Serena Williams, as well as Sen. Gabrielle Giffords, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Rousey's mark on the sporting landscape is unquestionable, but BI is right to say she is having an effect beyond sports. Her popularity proves that her reach is far beyond MMA fans.

And her popularity is not slowing down. Rousey was on the cover of ESPN the Magazine's 15th anniversary magazine, and recently posed for Maxim magazine's Hot 100. She will coach against Cat Zingano in the next edition of "The Ultimate Fighter," slated to premiere in September.

(AP) ? The "bad boys" are on the move. The Saturday night television fixture "Cops" is leaving Fox after 25 years and will be shown on the Spike network.

The cable network aimed at young male viewers said it will begin airing the action documentary series with the indelible theme song ("bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do when they come for you?") in September.

The move isn't really a surprise. Fox had cut down on the number of episodes ordered this season and frequently pre-empted the show for football games or ultimate fighting matches, which drew higher ratings. Fox will announce its fall season schedule next week.

"All good things must come to an end and there's a renewal process in life," said John Langley, the show's creator. "I'm fortunate I have the opportunity to take it to Spike."

"Cops" cameras follow officers on nighttime patrol with all the crooks, drunks and violent offenders they meet up with. It was a novelty for television when it began airing in March 1989, during Fox's third year of operation, back when "reality TV" wasn't even a genre. For many years, it was paired on Fox's Saturday night lineup with "America's Most Wanted," which left the network in 2011 and shifted to Lifetime.

Langley said he had no bitterness toward Fox and was grateful the network took a chance on his concept when others rejected him.

"We always won our time slot," he said. "We were the little engine that could and we were delivering for Fox over the 25 years. I understand that new regimes have different attitudes. I just felt that we needed a change as well."

Langley's son, Morgan, helps produce "Cops," which has filmed more than 900 episodes in 140 cities. He said its success has enabled his production company to make other shows that appear on Spike and Tru TV.

"It's important to have a flagship show," he said.

He acknowledges being a pioneer in reality TV, but he said many shows on now are "scripted, they're not reality. They're scripted shows with real people."

Spike said it will air "Cops" in its customary 8 p.m. time slot, with two half-hour programs running back to back. The network usually airs movies on Saturday nights now, but with "Cops," it hopes to build it into a night of original programming.

How To Visualize and Create A Checklist for The Perfect Seattle ...

visualize perfect seattle home

The process of buying a home can be a difficult one. The truth be told. It is the biggest financial endeavor that one undertakes during their existence. It is a very important decision because it will directly determine the kind of life that you and your family will live in the future. For this reason, this decision has to undertaken after much thought and consideration. This article is written to offer helpful information and guidelines that will help you to go through the process of buying a home and make it a stress free affair.

First things first, visualize the kind of house you want to purchase.

Ask yourself questions such as:
- How many floors do you want the house to have?
- Do you want the house to have a deck or a lawn?
- How many bedrooms should the house have?
- How many bathrooms should the house have?

Think further along the features that you want to include within your home.

External factors are equally important factors to think about when planning to buy a home.

Do you want to live in close proximity to shopping complexes for instance?

Or do you want your home to be in a suburban or urban environment?

Consider the things that you can change about the house as well as the things that you cannot change.

It would be simple to change the appearance of a house but it would be impossible to change the view or the location.

Buying a house also involves a lot of legal papers both on the buyer and on the seller?s side.

This is the where a real estate broker comes in. Find a professional real estate broker who will help you in overseeing this process. Ideally they earn their commission after a successful sale goes through. Always choose a real estate broker who knows the location and general area where you want to buy your house well. He or she will most likely have lots more information about the place.

The next thing to consider is your budget

What can you and can?t you afford. You may fall head over heels with a particular location but the houses there are out of your budget price. That said you can strategically find a house in the location of your choice but that will call for you to make some sacrifices as well.

Finding a Fixer In a Good Area

Finding a fixer might be tough to find. Know this though, that if you get such a deal the home will not be a ready to move in immediately kind of house. It would help a lot if you are handy or have friends and family who are handy. If you are or have such friends you can comfortably purchase the upper fixer in a good neighborhood.

Direct any and every question that you may have about buying a home to your agent. It is the sole purpose why they are there and there is never a question that is bad or not good enough.

If it takes you sometime to find your dream house, do not despair.

It?s the nature of the homes market. Sometimes they are available and sometimes they are not. If you can wait before you move, take your time and use that time to find the home of your choice. The most important point here is that you should only buy a house when you are 100% sure that that is the house you want.

Before you put pen to paper on any binding contracts, make sure the house has gone through an inspection. If there are any problems with its structure, the seller is under obligation to fix any issue and at his or her own expense. There is no way you would want to be stuck up in a place that has major problems even before you move in.

Since buying a home is really a big venture, give yourself sufficient time to think about it. Think over the options you have and do so until you are sure of what you want.
