As summer comes to a close so does the versatility of fruity summer cocktails. During summer dudes can drink a delicious drink without having their man-card pulled. So gentlemen take your ladies to The Loft at NYLO and experience their summer cocktail menu while you still can. For those who are looking for something light and refreshing, try the Papaya White Sangria and White Cranberry Watermelon Sangria made with white wine. All glasses are $11 and pitchers, which serve 4-5 glasses, are $32.

This month on August 15 and 22 come pay your respects to the King of Rock n? Roll as El Ranchito hosts its 10th annual Elvis Impersonator Nights. El Ranchito?s General Manager Juan Sanchez founded this tradition. If you close your eyes while he sings you?d think he was the King himself. On August 15 Kraig Parker will sing a few songs and there will be a live band on both nights of the event. Come wearing your blue suede shoes and get ready to boogie.

The Ladies Who Lunch special, offered at $25, includes a smoked chicken and tomato Panini with spinach and avocado, a mixed green salad and a house made ice cream root beer float. The mixed green salad, prepared with house made bacon, green beans, grana padana and dill roasted tomato vinaigrette with shallots and Dijon is sure to please palates. Ladies have the option to order white wine sangria spritzers, made with Riesling, St. Germain, fresh citrus and berries for $7?As if you needed an excuse to have lunch with the girls.

South Side on Lamar

On August 21 through September 4, the Janette Kennedy Gallery at South Side on Lamar will host New Abstractions, a show including an array of experimental two-dimensional works by Dallas based artists Adam Burkett.? The show will also include collaborations from Austin based artist John Snyder.

What?s better than spending your day by the pool and coming inside to a meal ready to serve? We can?t think of anything. The Crockin? Enchilada Casserole is the perfect post-pool-day meal for your family. Start by browning one pound of hamburger meat. Then add one can cream of chicken soup, one can diced tomatoes with green chilies and one can ranch style beans into the mixture. Tear tortillas into strips and place a layer in the bottom of the slow cooker. Next, add a layer of half the meat mixture, then a layer of crumbled Velveeta cheese. Repeat layers, ending with cheese. Cook on HIGH for 3 hours. Enjoy these waning days of summer bliss.
