Burberry model Edie Campbell quits Twitter after death threats from One Direction fans

Karolina Kurkova, the Czech supermodel, declared last week that her fellow mannequins should use social media to boost their careers. Edie Campbell, the Burberry model, has, however, deleted her Twitter account after she was targeted by internet bullies.

The attacks came after Campbell, 22, took part in a magazine photo shoot with One Direction, the pop group.

Jealous fans of the band sent messages including a threat of death if she were ever to touch Harry Styles, the singer, again.Campbell was told that she looked like a ?40-year-old troll?.

After the fashion shoot, Campbell, the girlfriend of Otis Ferry, had seemed unconcerned about the reaction of the notoriously jealous fans of One Direction.

?As long as they don?t appear at my door with fire-lit torches, I reckon I can handle it,? she said. ?I don?t fancy any sort of witch hunt - it could be like the trials of Salem.?

Campbell is just the latest famous name to abandon Twitter after being the victim of so-called ?trolls?.

Adele, the pop singer, is reported to have retired from the site following online abuse about her newborn son.
