How To Promote Your Message Using Video Marketing

Promoting your message with video?(also known as video blogging or video marketing) on the Internet is about to become even more popular as companies like?Sony,?Apple?and?Google?continue to offer connected TV?s and integrated TV devices.

And, whilst in my view it?s too early to predict that online video will wipe out traditional TV, if you?re an entrepreneur, coach, speaker, author or consultant?wanting to broadcast your message to a wider audience, the shift in how you advertise your business is taking place right now, and even if you decide not to get on board with video marketing or video blogging, your competitors will.

How Not To Market With Video Online

Whilst there is a huge focus on advertising online through video marketing, it?s actually quite sad to see so many people jumping on the bandwagon and shouting ?just get your videos up there!?

I agree that as entrepreneurs and independent professionals wanting to get our message out there far and wide, there is a need to take advantage of online video marketing ? an advertising opportunity that most of us would never be able to afford via traditional TV commercials. But for the most part, the videos I?m seeing companies create for the online viewers are abysmal. ?Sorry, I can?t dress it up, I have to say it like it is.

For the last couple of years, I have spent hours on?YouTube?researching for myself, the types of videos that get watched and, you?ll be surprised that it isn?t the most polished videos that get the most views. ?The videos that get the most views are those that provide information that people are looking for generally which, endorses my point that ?

Content is still KING even when promoting with video online.

It?s not enough to try and copy TV and create ads that say ?buy my product? because most people resist being?sold to?and so the minute you start talking about your company and what you have to sell to your prospects, they?ve hit the back button and are in search of another video.

To promote effectively with video on the web, you really need to avoid creating?pure sales videos?and focus on providing good quality, unique content that will make your viewers want to do business with you.

Now forgive me for saying this because I?m a Brit ?through and through,? but it?s time to chuck out the mindset of the English Man?s Home Being His Castle! ?I know, we hate to give anything away because after all, we?ve spent years and a lot of money acquiring this knowledge and we ain?t about to give it away for free!

But here?s the truth ?

For most people, you could give them step-by-step instructions on what to do to fix a leaking tap and despite having the tools in the shed, they?ll still prefer to call that nice plumber they saw on that video to do it for them since they might do something wrong and cause a flood ? and what then? ?I know this to be true, because I love him, but will never let my husband touch another water pipe in our house! I call my daddy or the emergency helpline! My husband it great, but he admits, him and water pipes don?t get on!

Use Video Marketing To Answer Your Prospects Most Burning Questions

When people go online, they are generally not sitting there with purse or wallet in hand, ready to buy something. What they go online for is to get a solution to their problem. If you can give them a solution, touch their pain point or answer their most burning question, you have their attention as well as an opportunity to sell to them.

But how do you sell to them if you?re not going to pitch them in your video?

Offer them something for free, and ensure it?s something of value and tell them where to go find it, which will preferably be on your website or blog so that you can capture their name and email address, giving you the opportunity to send them more free information.

But Trish, I still haven?t told them how cool our product is yet! Don?t be so hasty. :-)

Moving The Free Line

Eban Pagan would call this, ?moving the free line,? where you give away plenty of information for free ? your best stuff ? and then you insert your links into the free content or, send them a separate promotional video or article.

Whatever you do, you want the amount of free information to outweigh the amount of sales pitching you do. I don?t know about you, but when I walk into a shop to browse, I hate it when I?ve not had time to breathe and someone walks over to me and says ?is there anything I can help you with.? I know they?re wanting to be helpful, but at least give me some breathing space before you come running over. It makes me feel as though I?m being watched and not free to just look. And though my intention may have been to ?just look,? that looking could result in a sale. Think the same for your prospects online and ask yourself the best way of turning browsers into buyers.

If you follow the principle that ?people don?t care what you know until they know that you care,? you will build deeper relationships that is likely to develop into long-term relationships, rather than a quick one-time sale.

So don?t be shy, give away your best content for free and notice how your credibility and trust with your prospects will increase, as will your sales.

In the next article, I?ll talk about ways to create your videos even if you think you have a face for radio or prefer not to be on camera. There are ways for the most technologically challenged to create great video for online viewing that will get your prospects attention.

Until next time,
