Kristen Stewart on Breaking Dawn: Reflections on Bella Swan Milestones

No offense to Edward, Jacob and their respective team members, but Breaking Dawn is all about Bella. In the epic Twilight conclusion, Kristen Stewart's character is seen as a newlywed, a newly-turned vampire and as a pregnant woman.

Going through all of those changes with a girl she's played for so long was not easy for Stewart, who feels like a part of herself will always be entwined with Bella Swan.

"I’m pretty wrapped up in her," Kristen tells Movie Fanatic. "If you’re the type of girl to identify with Bella then you’re just kind of on her. So it’s really hard for me."

"I genuinely had to justify every decision she made the whole way through."

Among the many milestones crammed into the first part of Breaking Dawn (in theaters this Friday) is Bella's wedding to Edward, played by Robert Pattinson.

"I had a million different things going through my head," she recalled of walking down the aisle. "What I kept telling myself was, “Stop, stop, stop. Like just do it. Actually have this experience because you’re just about to ruin it.”

Of co-stars Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, she says, "I can’t imagine what this film would have been if I didn’t have really, really solid and growing relationships with them."

"When you work with people like that, you give so much, you’re so comfortable and you can do no wrong, and so they’ve got you. I think we all just got along, and it shows."

Warwick Davis Talks Harry Potter, Star Wars, and More

While Warwick Davis is a name you might not instantly recognize, I can assure you you?ve seen his work. His career began as the Ewok ?Wicket? in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, after which he starred in such films as Labyrinth, Willow, the Leprechaun series, The Hitchhiker?s Guide to the Galaxy, and of course Harry Potter. In the wizarding franchise, Davis played two characters: Professor Flitwick and Griphook. Steve is currently in sunny Orlando at Universal?s Wizarding World of Harry Potter for the DVD/Blu-ray release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ? Part 2, and he got the chance to sit down with Davis for an extended interview earlier today.

The actor spoke about his impressions of Universal?s Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, getting recognized in the street, the evolution of make-up effects over the years, what props he?s been able to keep from various films, Bryan Singer?s big-budget Jack the Giant Killer, his hilarious new TV series Life?s Too Short with Ricky Gervais, and of course the lasting legacy of the Harry Potter franchise. Hit the jump to watch the interview.

(AP) ? Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s reported its first quarterly revenue gain in its U.S. namesake business in more than two years, but the discounter's third-quarter profit slipped 2.9 percent, missing Wall Street expectations.

That Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, has reversed nine consecutive quarters of revenue declines in its branded stores in the U.S. is a positive sign in the midst of otherwise bad economic news. Wal-Mart is a bellwether in the U.S., and its core low-income shoppers have been particularly hard hit by joblessness and the other challenges of the nation's weak economy. The results indicate that Wal-Mart's latest strategy to focus on low prices and restock popular merchandise can get those most hurt by the downturn to spend.

"The plan is working," said Mike Duke, CEO of Wal-Mart, in a pre-recorded call released Tuesday. "Customers are responding favorably."

Wal-Mart said Tuesday it earned 97 cents per share, or $3.33 billion in the three-month period ended Oct. 31. That compares with 95 cents per share, or $3.43 billion, in the year-ago period. The year-ago results included a tax benefit of a nickel. Net revenue rose 8.2 percent to $109.5 billion.

Analysts had expected 98 cents per share on revenue of $108.86 billion, according to Factset.

Wal-Mart's U.S. namesake division's revenue at stores opened at least a year ? an indicator of a retailer's health ? rose 1.3 percent. That beat Wall Street estimates for a 0.3 percent increase and reverses nine straight quarters of declines in the measure.

Overall, revenue at stores in its U.S. business opened at least a year rose 1.9 percent, including a 5.7 percent increase at Sam's Club stores. Analysts had expected a 4.9 percent gain at the Sam's Club division. Wal-Mart said that the gains in revenue at stores opened at least a year were fueled by an increase in the average ticket, though traffic was still down. Sales of food and health and wellness products, sporting goods, crafts and clothing were strong.

Wal-Mart has been working to rebound sales at stores open at least a year at its U.S. business, which have been hurt by the economic downturn and missteps the retailer made in its pricing and selection. The business is particularly important to Wal-Mart because it accounts for 62 percent of its total revenue. The latest results show Wal-Mart's strategy may be working.

The company, based on Bentonville, Ark., has been restoring thousands of popular products it ditched during an overzealous bid to de-clutter its stores. Wal-Mart, which late last year started offering low prices only on select items, also has been working to reclaim its reputation as the lowest-price leader by going back to the "everyday" low pricing strategy that was made popular by its founder, Sam Walton.

Although Wal-Mart's strategy seems to be working, it comes with a cost. The company said that all three areas, including its Wal-Mart U.S. division, Sam's Club and its international division, saw a decline in profit margins from the impact of its low price focus and inflationary pressures.

Going forward, Wal-Mart executives hope that the company's campaign to turnaround its business will continue improve results. But they are cautiously optimistic because Wal-Mart's core low-income customers are still reeling from the economic downturn.

Wal-Mart said it expects fourth-quarter earnings results to be in the range of $1.42 per share to $1.48 per share in the fourth quarter. Analysts had expected $1.45 per share. For the full year, it expects a range of $4.45 per share to $4.51 per share. Analysts had expected $4.50 per share, according to Factset.

"Customers remain concerned about jobs," said Duke, who added that only one in 10 mothers surveyed by Wal-Mart view the U.S. economy as "good."

Like most retailers, Wal-Mart is counting on the upcoming holiday shopping season to help get cost-conscious shoppers spending.

Ahead of the season, Wal-Mart is pounding its low price message hard by guaranteeing customers will get the lowest price no matter when they buy during the season. With its new Christmas Price Guarantee program, shoppers who buy something at its store between Nov. 1 and Dec. 25, but then find the identical product elsewhere for less, can get a gift card in the amount of the difference.

The company also brought back layaway this holiday season and said Tuesday the response has been "overwhelmingly positive". It is also starting its Black Friday specials at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving, two hours earlier than many of its competitors like Kohl's Corp., Target Corp. and Macy's.

What Really Motivates A Small Business Owner

This weeks article is sneaking in front of the Creative Visionary series I have been putting together since my previous post. Apologies to anyone who was expecting to see the next installment, it will be following this article in my column.

The reason for the delay is because of a last minute invite to write about a Visa small business promotion, giving away $10,000 in prizes to small business owners. At the end of this article are links about how you can enter the sweepstakes.

The Secret Business Sauce

Today you?ll find out about the driving forces that keep small business folk going regardless of the challenges they face, and as entrepreneurs, we know there are many.

We?re exploring intrinsic rewards and motivations that drive you even more so than external ones. Understanding intrinsic rewards and motivation sheds light on why entrepreneurs are capable of putting in crazy long hours and showing unwavering dedication to their products and service.

I?ve interviewed a couple of fascinating business people for this article, including Andrianna and Con Fardoulis, of Fardoulis Chocolates and Annalisa and Luca Tortora, of Visco Selected Fine Foods and I will be drawing from?Daniel H. Pink?s?research in his latest book,??Drive?.

I only hit upon the idea for this article thanks to listening to the responses from my interviewees about why they?re in business and what makes them keep going in the face of major challenges. As I listened to them, I realized that many of the attributes being shared relate to intrinsic rewards.

Intrinsic vs External Rewards

You are probably already aware of external rewards which come in the form of money, power, status, recognition etc. But there are driving forces that come from within that account for how and why small business owners keep going against all odds. As I spoke to Andrianna, Anna and Con about their respective businesses, not one of them mentioned being driven by any of the external rewards above.

You have motivational forces that drive you from within. Pink says -

we have an innate drive to be autonomous, competent and connected to one and other. When this drive is liberated,?people achieve more and lead richer lives

It is these forces that entrepreneurs thrive on in running their own business. Dan Pink explains that when these?innate psychological needs?are met, you become?intrinsically motivated, productive and happy.

The Unstoppable Autonomous Entrepreneur

Let?s start by looking at autonomy, this is one of the biggest drivers for entrepreneurs. Being able to provide a valuable product and service to others whilst enjoying the freedom to explore and express your creativity is an extraordinary motivator. Your creativity is inextricably linked to how autonomous you feel; freedom and creativity go hand in hand.

When you work for someone else, you are rarely given free reign to innovate and problem solve at will. Even if you?re expected to in your job, you always have to get permission from the powers that be to run with your ideas and innovations. This slows down the process of innovation and problem solving and inhibits creativity.

Entrepreneurs are highly creative individuals, they love a challenge and they love being able to rise to the challenge. You have to be creative to stay in business.

Business owners invite challenges into their life everyday?and draw on creativity to handle these challenges. The intrinsic motivation of autonomy drives you in business and the sense of freedom and creativity?that comes from it is a great source of fulfillment in itself.

Mastery ? The Great Motivator

Now let?s look at the innate need for competence, I actually prefer to call this ?mastery?. This intrinsic motivator came up again and again in my interviews with business owners, Andrianna, Anna and Con. It became screamingly apparent that developing mastery was a powerful driving force in their work.

Con described his and Andrianna?s intrinsic motivation for developing mastery in their chocolate business in a fascinating and quite poetic manner.

Con explained ?

It?s like we?re competing in the ?Chocolatier Olympics? and we?re up against the world?s biggest and best like Lindt, Godiva, Ferrero Rocher, etc. We have to perform at that level and you just have to rise to the occasion. You get such a sense of dignity from creating and maintaining your products and service at this standard.

Annalisa described her experience of running her own business as a great way to cultivate self awareness. She told me -

Facing adversity when running your business shows you what you?re really made of. You learn who you are and what you?re truly capable of accomplishing.

Small business owners draw on the intrinsic motivational drive to continuously develop mastery in their work, and this drive helps them put in the long hours and stay focussed in tough times.

Connections Are The Cornerstone of Small Business

Relationships in small business matter ? a lot. Andrianna explained ?

Small businesses don?t have massive budgets for marketing. The strong connections we create are a firm foundation for us.

Because feeling connected to others is a innate psychological need, building and fostering relationships often comes naturally to entrepreneurs.

I heard an extraordinary example of how business owners will go way further than the extra mile to maintain a good relationship with a client. Annalisa Tortora?has personally got on flights to deliver goods to businesses when the delivery truck with the order hasn?t come through in time.

Jamie Oliver?s restaurant, ?Jamie?s Italian? was opened in Sydney recently. The freight truck hadn?t delivered the goods from their business and the head chef was nearly having a heart attack because they didn?t have the produce for opening night.

Anna got on a flight at 4am on Saturday morning, flew to Sydney, got a hire car, drove to meet the freight truck and hand delivered the goods the chef needed to make it through the opening weekend. She told me she?s done this numerous times for clients and you do it because you have an agreement with them and you have to ?deliver the goods? ? literally in this case!

Connections do matter; feeling connected to others is an innate motivating force and this drive is also the cornerstone of a successful small business.

This just about wraps up my post on the ?Driven From Within?, thanks for reading and I?d love to hear your comments at the end.

I?d also like you to know?I received compensation from Visa for sharing my views in this post, but the views expressed here are solely mine, not Visa?s.?

This post was sponsored by Visa Small Business as part of their #gobiz Sweepstakes for@VisaSmallBusiness. (AP) ? A roadside bomb destroyed a car in eastern Afghanistan Saturday, killing nine civilians, including a woman and a child, officials said.

President Hamid Karzai condemned the bombing, which took place outside Mehterlam, the capital of Laghman province.

Faizanullah Patan, a spokesman for the provincial governor, put the death toll at nine and said the blast destroyed the vehicle.

NATO said one of its service members was killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan. It provided no other information. The death raised to 496 the number of coalition troops killed in the country so far this year.

Also in the south, gunmen shot and killed a village elder in the Khash Rod district of Nimroz province, regional chief Hashim Norizia said.

Nimroz has been recommended for transition from NATO to Afghan security control later this year. The city of Mehterlam went to Afghan control in July.

A bicycle bomb in western Herat province's Injil district wounded two police officers and two civilians, the Interior Ministry said.

Many Afghan militants have traditionally had their strongholds in the south, but also carry out numerous attacks along the eastern border with Pakistan.
